Ethno Programme (Sami Village)
The Sami are the indigenous people of the Kola Peninsula, whose culture and traditions have survived through centuries of life in the harsh Arctic. A visit to a Sami village from Murmansk offers a rare glimpse into their unique way of life, traditions, and daily customs. This is one of the warmest and most soulful excursions on the Kola Peninsula. The program begins with meeting the reindeer. You can feed them lichen directly from your hand and learn about the crucial role reindeer play in Sami culture. Next comes time with the huskies — friendly, energetic dogs who love attention and happily pose for photos. A special part of the visit is the shaman's tent, a traditional Sami dwelling where ceremonies and rituals take place. You will learn about the beliefs and traditions of the Sami people and can take part in traditional Sami games. The program concludes with Arctic herbal tea and northern treats.
