Saami village
Embark on a journey to meet the indigenous people of the Kola Peninsula – the Sami, and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the ancient culture of the North. A tour to a Sami village offers the chance to become a guest of a fairy-tale people who have cherished their traditions in Northern Russia for over ten thousand years. You will be warmly welcomed in a real Sami settlement amidst a quiet snowy forest. Here, near a cozy chum (Sami tent), guests get acquainted with reindeer – the good-natured giants of the North. You will be able to stroke their fur, feed them from your hand with lichen (reindeer moss), and even ride in a reindeer sled, just like a hero from a northern fairy tale. Nearby, blue-eyed huskies frolic, eager to play with you – in their company, a smile will not leave your face. The guardians of the village will invite you into a warm chum (tent), where over a cup of herbal tea, you will hear ancient legends and stories about the life of the Sami. In the dim light, the fire flickers, the aroma of the smoking campfire and northern herbs spreads. Perhaps you will even be offered to try on a bright traditional Sami costume to feel the colorfulness of this people. The atmosphere around is filled with magic: on a frosty day, the warmth of the hearth, the smell of lichen, and the gentle ringing of a drum create a sense of northern wonder.
